Greetings from Malamulo

Well, the internet is VERY slow. I uploaded my pics from Blantyre, but the connection here at the hospital is slow. The wife and I were taken up to Liwonde National Park over the weekend and there are a few more images to upload. Hopefully I will get to Blantyre this week and share a couple with you. We also stopped by the Zomba Plateau for a few photo ops.

Malawi is a beautiful country, it is said to be "the warm heart of Africa".

The only downside I have so far is MSG. I am allergic and just about everybody cooks with it.

Till next time.

Bill

Not sure if you got my reply...the page went empty afterwards. Anyhow, and you might notice I have opinions, but show me ANY great work of art throughout history that was enhanced with a name. When did this start? It is my unwavering opinion that any work of art that needs psuedo-metaphysical title is simply an image that can not stand on its own merit. This also extends to the display of photographs. If people need to display an image using a deco-art methods, again, its because the image can't stand on its own. Why would someone want to do that to his art is not beyond me....everytime I viewed an exhibit where the artist cloaked his images in decorative material...I did not like the work, and saw the decoration as a ';pretty nuisance.' The greatest art exhibit I ever saw was in the mid-70's at the Norton Simon museum. 150 Edward Westons, 100 Ansel Adams (16x20) and 100 Brett Weston photographs. Displayed in nothing but glass; not even frames. None of the images had a psuedo-metaphysical name, and each stood on its own merit. They REALLY stood on their own merit.

The association of art with incomprehensible imagery is a modern concept. It is natural for idealistic students to feel compelled to search artwork for revelations since one of the reasons we look at art is to learn. Unfortunately, the notion that cloaking art in symbolism and pseudo metaphysics will make the revelation more meaningful, is suspicious thinking at best.

Very clever of the restaurant to post the signs.

As far as translation goes, I think you do a much better job than the translator I used. :-)

I am using scraps more for the personal stuff that isn't all that great. Some people have great images in scraps. Anyone can see them I believe. Anytime you visit a different artist take a look at their scraps. That will give you some ideas on what you might want to do with it.

Not sure I want to use scraps. Who sees them? Why have them? Ansel was big on: "Only show your best work." And that's a direct quote.
